Firm Overview

Price Benowitz LLP is a mid-sized law firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices throughout D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and South Carolina. Our core values—Passion, Integrity, and Excellence—drive everything we do. We are known for our collaborative, high-energy environment and for giving experienced attorneys the resources and support they need to focus on what matters most: representing clients and achieving strong results.

About The Role

Price Benowitz LLP is seeking an accomplished Senior Criminal Defense Attorney to join our growing Virginia criminal defense practice in the Greater Richmond area.

This position is designed for an experienced criminal defense attorney who is comfortable taking the lead on complex felony matters and high-stakes criminal cases. The attorney will handle matters throughout the Richmond region, with opportunities to serve clients in Richmond and surrounding jurisdictions.

We are particularly interested in attorneys with substantial courtroom experience who are confident independently managing sophisticated cases from initial appearance through trial.

If you love being in the courtroom, developing case strategy, and advocating for clients, this may be an excellent fit.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as lead counsel on complex criminal matters, with a particular emphasis on serious felony cases.
  • Represent clients throughout the Greater Richmond area and surrounding Virginia jurisdictions.
  • Independently manage cases from initial appearance through resolution or trial.
  • Develop sophisticated defense strategies involving factual, evidentiary, constitutional, and procedural issues.
  • Handle bond hearings, preliminary hearings, motions practice, plea negotiations, trials, sentencing proceedings, and other critical stages of criminal litigation.
  • Provide strategic guidance on particularly challenging or high-stakes matters.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with clients facing serious criminal charges and significant consequences.
  • Collaborate with other criminal defense attorneys, paralegals, and support staff across the firm's Virginia practice.
  • Focus on practicing law without the expectation of generating your own leads or developing a personal book of business.

What You Bring

  • Active Virginia Bar license in good standing.
  • Significant substantive criminal defense experience, ideally including substantial felony work.
  • Strong first-chair courtroom and trial experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex and high-stakes criminal matters.
  • Excellent judgment, case strategy, negotiation, and client counseling skills.
  • Ability to effectively represent clients across multiple jurisdictions within the Greater Richmond region.
  • A strong work ethic, professionalism, and genuine commitment to criminal defense and client advocacy.
  • Public defender, prosecutor, or established private criminal defense experience may all provide relevant backgrounds for this position.

What We Offer

  • A steady stream of qualified clients; the firm handles marketing, intake, and client acquisition.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and performance.
  • The opportunity to handle sophisticated and challenging criminal matters.
  • Robust administrative and paralegal support.
  • An established marketing and intake infrastructure that allows attorneys to concentrate on their cases.
  • Collaboration with an experienced team of criminal defense attorneys.
  • Professional growth opportunities within an established and expanding criminal defense practice.

Why Price Benowitz?

Experienced criminal defense attorneys should be able to spend their time developing strategy, appearing in court, preparing cases, and advocating for their clients.

Price Benowitz has built a model that allows attorneys to do exactly that.

For a senior attorney who enjoys taking ownership of challenging felony cases and wants the infrastructure of an established firm behind them, this role offers the opportunity to focus on sophisticated criminal defense work while serving clients throughout the Greater Richmond region.

If you're an experienced Virginia criminal defense attorney ready to take the lead on complex cases, we'd like to hear from you.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
